Kenny Glass (Cherokee Nation/Wyandot) has over thirteen years of experience in the textile arts and started sewing ten years ago. Glass earned an Associate’s Degree in Art and a Bachelor’s Degree in American Indian Studies from Bacone College, where he also learned to bead. He later earned a Master’s of Science in Native American Leadership from Southeastern Oklahoma State University. Glass was first taught to use a sewing machine by his mother and a friend and continues to be inspired by his family and community to produce his bold, modern designs from a Cherokee perspective. His work has been featured in exhibits and art shows across the country, though he also shares his work with community members in order to collectively celebrate Cherokee culture. Whether it be basket weave patterns, traditional stories or even Native humor, Glass’s work is a reflection of the vast complexity of Cherokee culture. He is a graduate of the Cherokee Master Apprentice Program and now works for the Cherokee Little Seeds Program where he lives in Tahlequah, Oklahoma.
