Lauren Goings (Eastern Band Cherokee) of the Wolf Clan has over twenty years of basket weaving experience. Learning from her grandmother, Louise Goings, at a young age, she has continued the long legacy of superior craftsmanship for which her family is known. Goings has also expanded her work to include beadwork and finger weaving. Her basketry and mat making utilizes white oak and river cane materials. She continues to be inspired by her family and culture, including an emphasis on gathering and preparing the natural materials used in the weaving process. She has been awarded multiple ribbons for her work at the Cherokee Fall Festival. She currently lives in the Birdtown Community of Cherokee, NC.
