Rodney Johnson

R.A. Johnson (Comanche/Caddo Nation of Oklahoma) is a graduate of Western Carolina University and Southern University. For over thirty years, Johnson has rooted his talents in the tradition of woodcarving, pottery, beadwork, silversmithing, pencil drawings, and basketry. Johnson credits his foundational knowledge and early interest in the traditional arts to Alyne Stamper, Reba Elders, and Paul Hornbuckle. Ever-eager to evolve his artistry, Johnson taught himself graphic design four years ago. Today, his contemporary style and mixed-medium designs reflect his appreciation for Cherokee culture, geography, community, and the individuals who make up his world.

In 2022, this unique design perspective earned him first place in the Diverse Arts Category at the Cherokee National Holiday Art Show in Tahlequah, OK. Johnson currently resides in the Big Cove Community of Cherokee, NC with his wife.
