Tara Wahcahunka is a contemporary beadwork artist and enrolled member of the Ihanktonwan Oyate (Yankton Sioux Tribe). She holds associate degrees in Arts and Science and Business Management. Tara’s beadwork reflects her deep connection to nature and the rich colors found in the world around her. Her work blends traditional Native beadwork techniques with a modern style, creating pieces that honor her cultural roots while expressing her own artistic voice. Tara began beading at a young age, learning from community members that taught beading classes on the Yankton Sioux Reservation. Today, she continues that legacy, producing detailed and meaningful pieces that have been featured in exhibitions and community events. Through her art, Tara shares stories, celebrates her heritage, and contributes to the continuation of Indigenous artistic traditions.
