ᏪᎳᏂ ᎦᏅᎯᏓ Waylon Long (Eastern Band Cherokee/Santee Sioux) is a master artisan in the areas of river cane weaving and stickball stick carving. Long is a fourth-generation weaver, learning the technique from his father, Jim Long. Later, he studied under Beloved Man Jerry Wolfe to learn the art form of ball stick carving. This technique must adhere to a strict format in order to be deemed appropriate for competition. Having practiced his craft for over sixteen years, Long continues this tradition by teaching younger generations these skills and connections to the game. Long’s stickball sticks are highly sought after in the stickball community. He currently lives in the Big Cove Community of Cherokee, NC.
