Aaliyah Swimmer (Eastern Band Cherokee), a member of the Wolf Clan, is multi-genre artist with a background in sewing, children’s book illustration, mask making, and landscape painting. For over nine years, Swimmer has been inspired by the land and natural environment. Her work pays homage to the beauty of the Smoky Mountains, the vibrant colors of trees, and the ever-changing sky. In 2021, she earned a bachelor’s degree from Western Carolina University. While she is a self-taught painter, Swimmer learned mask making from Michelle Long when she was her student in the Cherokee Language Master Apprentice Program. Swimmer continues to be inspired by all Aniyon participants for the gifts and talents they selflessly share. She currently resides in Waynesville (Soki), NC.
