Chi Shipman (Eastern Band Cherokee), comes from several generations of Cherokee artisans. She earned her Bachelor’s of Science in Anthropology with a minor in Cherokee Studies from Western Carolina University. She has recently found her love for pottery. Her work is a fusion of traditional Cherokee pottery with a modern twist of colors and designs. Shipman’s work is displayed in museum collections in the Southeast.
Shipman is a passionate advocate for the revitalization of Indigenous languages, including Cherokee, her native tongue. Shipman serves as the Adult Language Education Coordinator for the Kituwah Preservation and Education Program, focusing on the revitalization of the Cherokee language through immersion and curriculum development. She currently lives in western North Carolina.
