Melah Perkins

Melah Perkins (Eastern Band Cherokee), a member of the Anikawi Clan, was taught by her father, Yashti Perkins, to bead at eight-years-old and has continued to practice the artform for the past seventeen years. Perkins’ mother, Nakoa Chiltoskie is a talented seamstress in her own right, sewing complete daily wear and Powwow wardrobes for her family when Melah was a child. She shared her knowledge of sewing with Perkins and continues to inspire her keen eye for design today.

Perkins is known for her floral and dentalium patterns, especially in her intricate beadwork. She is currently obtaining her Bachelor’s Degree in Business and Marketing from Western Carolina University and resides in the Wolftown Community of Cherokee, NC.
